The Pointed Hex Table
The Pointed Hex tables was the culmination of a fair amount of wood milling. The result was some very unique wood patterns that really add a lot of detail to the piece. I was quite pleased with how both the wood and the concrete turned out. As mentioned in an earlier post while this table was about halfway finished, I had a hard time classifying it as a coffee table because of its shape, but it all depends on where it will be used.
The Details: The hexagonal top measures 24″ from side to side and 27″ from corner to corner. The wood is either spalted or quarter-sawn red oak from an old Savannah homestead. The concrete is made from white cement with a tan sand and has a design strength of 8000psi. The top is 1.5″ thick with the embedded arrows. The entire top has a 1/8″ high gloss epoxy finish that is heat resistant. The legs have a parallelogram section and extend through the top, making the whole table 23″ in height. The legs have 4 layers of clear gloss polyurethane. I would shorten the legs to any length if requested by future owner.
